Riley is a 4-6 month old Lab/ Cattle Dog mix. He was found in the shelter with a broken pelvis after a probable hit and run by a car. Its hard enough for dogs to get out of the shelter when they don't have an injury so little Riley really had no chance unless a rescue came in and took over his care. Well that is just what Jakes Wish did. One look at this precious baby and we signed the papers and carried him out into the crate he would call home for the next 8 weeks. Yes it was crate rest for our boy but it paid off. He did not need surgery and his fractured pelvis is pretty much healed. He has one more set of X-rays on 6/28. We are expecting full clearance and the OK to get him into his forever home.
Riley is a fun loving boy. He has just now been given the OK to play a little and boy is he enjoying it. His foster family has had quite a full-time job on their hands for the past 8 weeks trying to keep a Lab puppy quiet. You see Riley thought he was OK and wanted to play like any other dog. He didn't realize he was OK because he was receiving pain meds. Riley has turned into quite the smuggler because of all the one on one time he has received from his foster family. He currently lives with two small breed foster siblings that he adores. He gets along with everything and everyone.
We wil be looking for a family that understands the energy level of a Lab puppy. He will need a family dedicated to formal training and daily activity to keep him out of trouble. A bored Lab is a naughty one and Riley would be no different. He will be able to run and play just like any other dog of his size and isn't expected to have any lasting issues.
Riley will be ready for his new home the week of 7/1. He is looking forward to spending the 4th of July with his new family.
